Why I’m running for school board

Dear Fellow Community Members,

My name is Amber Cameron and I’m the proud parent of two energetic and inquisitive elementary-school-aged children who attend Lakeville Area Public Schools.

I’m also an engaged volunteer in our beautiful community who’s honored to be running for a seat on the Independent School District (ISD) 194 School Board. Being a child of two Minnesota public school teachers and also being married to one, my commitment to public education runs deep. I’ve had the privilege of serving on various committees and task forces for the district, including the Facilities Task Force, Finance Task Force, Attendance Area Adjustment Team, and co-chair of our district’s referendum community support effort, Unite for 194.

Serving on a school board is not just about setting policies and managing budgets; it’s about representing the voices of students, parents, teachers, and staff alike.  As a candidate, I’m committed to ensuring that our schools foster an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in listening to the concerns and ideas of those teachers and staff who work with our students every day to ensure that they have the tools, resources, and support to continue providing a high-quality education for all of our students.

Lakeville Area Schools is a leader in many ways, but the current “do more with less” mentality will not suffice in the years ahead. To be a state and regional leader in student outcomes, we need to be a leader of inputs. Providing our staff competitive salaries, impactful training, and the most up-to-date curriculum possible will enable our district to build on its legacy.

I’ll put transparency and accountability first and foremost in the pursuit of these goals. My approach will ensure that decisions made at the board level are in the best interest of all ISD 194’s stakeholders, with students at the center of all decisions. With your support, I’ll bring fresh a perspective and a collaborative mindset to the ISD 194 Board of Education and work to create a positive and equitable learning and working environment for the students and staff who make up ISD 194. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students and the future of our community.

If you value transparency, accountability, and share my desire to make our community one of the state’s great school districts, vote for me in the ISD 194 School Board election this fall.

Thanks for your support.
